Welcome to the official Friends of the San Jacinto Battleground website! |
|
The Friends of the San Jacinto Battleground is a non-profit group whose mission is to support and preserve the site of the 1836 battle considered to be one of the most important battles in modern history. The results of the battle, the culminating event in the Texas Revolution, impacted the history of both the United States and Mexico. San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site is located 22 miles east of downtown Houston. The site became a state part in 1907 to preserve the landscape where the battle took place on April 21, 1836 between the Texas Army under General Sam Houston and a division of the Mexican Army under General Santa Anna. The San Jacinto Battleground is a National Historic Landmark. |

Dear Friends: At this time of year many of you may be considering last-minute tax deductible charitable contributions. If you are in this position, please consider making a donation to the FRIENDS OF THE SAN JACINTO BATTLEGROUND, the operating name for the San Jacinto Battleground Association. We formed our organization in late 2002 to fill a void at San Jacinto. No non-profit was then in existence as a friends group that focused on the preservation, protection and promotion of the park as the place where Texas independence from Mexico was secured in 1836. We believe the preservation and protection of this site is critical for Texan heritage and as a teaching tool for future generations of Texans. |
